Helpdesk A Centralised Peer-to-Peer Helpdesk for Females in Sport

The objective of A Centralised Peer-to-Peer Helpdesk for Female Athletes (hereinafter – Helpdesk) is to ensure that each sport related workplace and/or location has a results-oriented policy which addresses the issue of harassment and violence.

The Helpdesk sets out the practical steps that can be taken by sports organizations, athletes and their family members, managers, coaches, judges and others involved in the sector to reduce, prevent and mitigate harassment-related actions and to combat violence, abuse and discrimination against women in sports. The steps reflect the Prevention measures to sport organisations and Prevention / help measures to females in sport.

Prevention measures to Sport organisations

Sport organisations harassment and violence prevention policy

Sport organizations should strive to produce and preserve an environment in which employees, athletes, coaches, members and other interested persons are treated with dignity, decency and respect. The environment of the Sport organization should be considered by common faith and the absence of intimidation, oppression and exploitation.

Therefore, Sport organization should have harassment and violence prevention policy, where all Sport organization related people should be covered by and should be expected to comply with, in addition to take suitable actions to guarantee that prohibited behaviour does not happen.

Rules for the prevention of harassment and violence in the sport organization

The objective of the Rules for the prevention of harassment and violence in the sport organization (hereinafter – Rules) is to provide general guidance (is advisory by nature and informational in content) in addressing harassment and violence prevention in Sport organizations. Specifically, it seeks to address questions with respect to prevention and/or occurrences of harassment and violence in the workplace and/or sport environment.

These Rules are intended to serve as a basic reference tool for the different local, regional, national scales and to different types and needs of Sport organizations.

Helpdesk provides the draft version of the Rules, which could be adopted, edited if needed and freely used by any sport organization in theEU.

Prevention / help measures to female athletes

Women in the sport sector experiencing abuse should have the possibility to contact someone seeking the backing and violence prevention.
In order to support and help women in stoppage or/and in the event of harassment and violence circumstance, the EWA project is launching a National information referrals service.

What is a National information referral service?

It is the process offering support to victims of violence and discrimination in sports by giving trusted contacts of local women’s rights organisations, legal service providers and other resources related to help and support for women in sports. Each partner organisation in the EWA project is operating as a national contact point and has developed cooperation with organisations, which could help prevent or deal with occurred harassment and violence circumstances.

Any woman (employee, athlete, coach, member or other interested person) of sport organization who will use this referral service will be treated with self-respect and professionalism. Confidentiality will be strictly maintained by national contact point and support organisations. Information received will be used, stored and disposed in accordance with the European Union General Data Protection Regulation. Enquiry records will be depersonalized and used only for statistical data, without any disclosure of personal data and content.
